Description
The Carnivorous Sundew Fairy(Photoshop/Intuos 2 A4)
This painting started as a personal journey into Photoshop digital painting.
(Posted earlier on CGTalk.)
About TCSF:
Hair strands group together to form the sundew like tentacles with a sticky fluid at the tip. Which attract various insects but not fairies She catches fairies by throwing a few sticky strings of her hair towards them and simultaneously tries to hit them with drops of sundew fluid which helps to digest the prey and gives it a nice sweet flavour.

Very nice work. Good WIP aswell.
Since you seem so experienced, I was wondering; Where's your website?
One crit; The pose of the elf on the bee should be more expressive, since she's being pulled back so brutally.

I love the way her face is done and the faerie looks great too, I would have liked to see a little more scared emotion on the faerie's face though.
Love the concept and the colours and how everything looks finished.
All those details are great! It's crazy how all of those details could be posted as finished artwork in these GFX galleries.
I don't think I would have figured out that this substance at the end of the tentacles is sticky and attracts insects on my own, you could clarify this a bit more by maybe let a few insects get stuck on them, though that might be a bit too much..
I have one question; how many hours did this take you?
Oh, and another question (like artoonator) ; where's your website?
Love,
Marleen

I agree that the small fairy needs a more dramatic reaction, but this is excellent!

You know I only recently re-discovered my painting abilities
For many years I’ve been professionally busy with lots of things but nothing related to art.
Because of a small operation to my knee I couldn’t work or go out of the house for a while so, I had lots of time for experimenting with digital painting.
I’ve had a look at Painter IX but up until now I lose my way every time I use it.
The abilities to blend colors and textures are really amazing so I keep coming back to this wonderful program. But for now I use Photoshop. Its toolkit is limited compared to Painter IX but it feels much more intuitive to use to me.
Anyway this painting took me about 1 month (4-5 hours each day) When you read the w.i.p. on CGTalk you might notice that I did a lot of “re-do’s” and that the painting changes a lot from the initial drawing. The people responding to my w.i.p. really kept me going, it was great fun. I hope to produce more paintings although my time is limited to only a few hours a week now
About my website, you will now understand that there isn’t one, yet. Ask me again I a year or so
I posted the wip from CGTalk here also because I learned so much myself while working on it. I thought it might help or inspire other people too.

Since I am staggering around gfx today I just post here.
The idea and the execution is really stunning - I was also secretly lurking in the wip thread on cgtalk. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the fact that her eyes have almost the same green then her skin..I think I would have made them a tiny bit brighter to contrast more with her skin. That's only nitpicking though.

P.S just seen your WIP, bloody brill. I can definitely see you becoming the next big thing!

I'm not a digital painter...so I have a question: how big is your original image in pixels ?

One more thing I learned is that before deciding that a painting has reached its final stage one should put It out of sight for a week or two and then judge it again. I mean when you stare/work continuously for weeks on a painting you become less critical.
There are certain parts/aspects of this painting I would have done differently now as some people suggested here too. And adding some more boobies to get even more votes here at GFX- A
Some numbers:
Canvas: 4961 x 3508 pixels (A3) -300 dpi
About 100 - 150 layers. I was very unsure about everything so I kept most items on their own layer so I could easily change individual items.
Psd file size:368 Mb
My PC ( P4/3g and 2 Gb of ram) & PS CS2 convinced me to stop working on this project. They just couldn't take it anymore

I think this picture is absolutely creepy and great: I like carnivorous plants and have some. She's so... carnivorous... colors are perfect to match with those of carnivorous plants.
I think you got also a perfect choice with her expression and posture.
Moreover, the spider is fabulous.
Premising this, my only critiques are that the background is a bit flat, it doesn't mix well with her figure, and the bugs aren't at the same level as the rest.
Notwithstanding this, I gave you the higher score I could, because I feel this picture is absolutely great both in concept and in realization.
